Broadcom Expands Low-Power ODU Satellite Device Portfolio

Beijing, January 8, 2015 - Broadcom , the global leader in innovative solutions for wired and wireless communications semiconductors (NASDAQ: BRCM), announced at the 2015 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, USA Another member of the Power Outdoor Unit (ODU) satellite series chip has been added. The BCM4554 meets the needs of satellite TV services for consumers in North America, Europe and Asia Pacific.

The new device supports up to 32 user set-top boxes (STBs) on a single coaxial cable in a multi-dwelling unit. This allows operators to provide additional services to more users without having to install new satellite antennas. At the same time, these products can also help operators improve services, such as by assigning more channels to a single set-top box for fast channel change.

Nicholas Dunn, vice president of marketing at Broadcom and Wireless Connectivity Group, said: "With the latest products in Broadcom's low-power ODU satellite device portfolio, operators worldwide will be able to improve satellites in single-family and multi-dwelling units. Availability of TV services. In a business that supports multiple set-top boxes, the BCM4554 helps operators reduce associated cabling, hardware and installation costs, and ultimately simplifies the process of providing satellite TV services to subscribers."

Being able to watch free channels from various satellites has stimulated the demand for satellite TV by residential users worldwide. To reduce the cost of deployment for a single coaxial cable per set-top box, Broadcom's BCM4554 simplifies the installation process required for new services.

Broadcom's BCM4554 is more integrated and consumes less power than previous generation chipsets. All high frequency head (LNB) outputs on the global ODU satellite market can be sampled directly. Broadcom's new ODU chipset is designed to accommodate 32 DVB-S2 channels (available in any set-top box in the home) on a single coaxial cable, reducing the cost of installation for satellite operators.

Key features and benefits:

· Second generation products: 28nm process, lower power consumption, higher integration

· 4 RF inputs and 1 RF output covering the 250?2350 MHz frequency range

32 user band output channels

Any tuner (LNB) input, 32 output channels are optional

Frequency Shift Keying (FSK) and Digital Satellite Equipment Control (DiSEqC)

Time to market:

Broadcom's BCM4554 is currently sampling.
