However, informed sources revealed that LG Display encountered difficulties in making these screens, and Apple’s efforts were blocked.
People familiar with the matter said that LG Display (LG Display) is working hard to increase the output of OLED screens, hoping to provide OLED screens for the iPhone released this year. However, manufacturing problems have caused LG to lag behind the schedules of many suppliers before mass production of iPhone parts, and mass production usually begins around July.
LG Display's manufacturing process can only produce larger OLED panels, while Apple needs smaller displays. In addition, Apple also asked LG Display for a third round of prototype production of OLED displays that may be equipped for the iPhone, which foreign media said is unusual for accessory manufacturers.
According to people familiar with the matter, Apple has already had a disagreement over whether LG Display can become the second OLED display supplier.
Compared to liquid crystal displays (LCDs), OLEDs are generally thinner, more flexible, and more colorful. Apple's iPhone X phone uses an OLED screen.
In January this year, foreign media reported that LG Display will supply OLED panels for over 15 million new iPhones. The company is building a production line for small-sized flexible OLED screens and will begin mass production in the second half of this year.
Samsung currently dominates the small-size OLED panel market and is the exclusive OLED panel supplier for Apple's high-end iPhone.
