Fieldbus Foundation Releases Latest SIF Configuration and Development Tools

The FOUNDATION fieldbus, with distributed function modules and open communication protocols that have been recognized by industry, is the ideal platform for promoting standard SIFs. Foundation technology can enable users of the process industry to extend the benefits of fieldbus to plant safety systems to gain the benefits of CAPEX and OPEX. The SIF protocol has been certified by TÜV Anlagentechnik GmbH and can meet the requirements up to IEC 61508 as well as the Safety Integrity Level (SIL)3.

In May 2008, the Fieldbus Foundation conducted a successful live demonstration of the Foundation's SIF solution at the Shell Global Solutions Technology Center in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The on-site technical demonstration attracted process automation end-users and equipment suppliers from all over the world with the goal of evaluating the FOUNDATION fieldbus safety valve capabilities using Partial Stroke Test (PST) and different pressure, level, temperature and diagnostic equipment. The demonstration also measured the integration capabilities of the equipment through the Asset Management and Basic Process Control System (BPCS) platform.

Audun Gjerde of Shell Global Solutions presented a SIF presentation at the Amsterdam conference. He pointed out: "By implementing foundation technology for SIF, Shell hopes to strengthen diagnostic capabilities with a fully integrated asset management system. We also look forward to relying on intelligent detection and Diagnostics, as well as on-line testing and partial stroke testing, reduce testing of the final component. This will detect dangerous equipment failures early and reduce the error process."

According to Stephen Mitschke, Fieldbus Foundation fieldbus product manager, the new Foundation SIF solution will allow automation equipment vendors to integrate powerful fieldbus diagnostics when developing SIF equipment. He said: "The plant safety system can now also be deployed with a wide range of diagnostic functions, which are traditionally provided by FOUNDATION fieldbus technology. These diagnostic pairs improve the reliability and stability of the process, increase operating time, and reduce Error alerts are very important."

Mitschke added: "Leading automation equipment suppliers are designing a wide variety of equipment to meet the growing demand for fieldbus SIFs on the market. Our developer resources ensure the interoperability of fieldbus equipment in modern safety systems. Sex, some certification agencies, such as TUV, provide certification using safety instrumented system (SIF) equipment."

The new Foundation SIF technology project targets fieldbus transmitters and other SIF devices and defines analog input (AI) modules. Future project upgrades will include digital output (DO) modules. In FOUNDATION technology, the function module contains the information needed for the online control function. The device description (DD) and the capability file (CF) provide additional information required for configuration and display.

The Foundation SIF ITK 1.0 is an excellent tool for fault identification and troubleshooting of equipment. It can provide all required hardware and software to ensure that the interoperability of all equipment of the manufacturer meets the requirements of the official Fieldbus Foundation registered test program. s level. Using the test tool set, device developers can perform the same tests before submitting their devices to the Foundation for registration.

The Foundation SIF ITK also includes a set of test cases that can confirm the functionality of fieldbus devices and ensure their matching with FOUNDATION fieldbus function modules and transmission module solutions. It also includes a DD "super browser" that can check and confirm device descriptions and physical layer match testing procedures. The DD hyperbrowser supports the confirmation of existing device descriptions. New DD 5.1 device developers can describe their device descriptions, execution methods, and visualize elements using the new DD 5.1 technology. Additional standard function modules have also been interviewed and ITK will upgrade new test case sets to ensure application development.

The interoperability of the test suite matches that of an ITK automation tool. This design eliminates the many manual interventions required for pre-registration testing of fieldbus devices. Tools increase the efficiency of ITK planning and reduce the direct time and labor force to complete the testing process. The maintenance agreement on ensuring that the test suite software can be upgraded to the latest version in time has also been signed.

The Foundation Device Description Database (version 3.4) has been upgraded to include Device Description Language (DDL) code for the new SIF module. With this device description submission service, device developers now have templated DDLs, making it easier and less time-consuming to develop device description languages for Foundation Fieldbus projects.
