According to foreign media reports, Philips recently announced the appointment of Marriott (FransvanHouten) as the company's next CEO. Marriott will take over from Gerard Kleisterlee in April next year. Philips is currently the world's largest manufacturer of lighting equipment, one of the world's three largest medical device manufacturers, and the largest consumer electronics manufacturer in Europe.
Marriott has previously served as CEO of the Philips Chips division. In 2006, the Philips chip division was spun off from Philips and built into NXP Semiconductors. Marriott resigned as CEO of NXP at the end of 2008.
In the statement, Ke Cilei said that Marriott was one of the key members of my team and made great contributions to the direction of the company. I have always regretted that he left the company with the spin-off of the semiconductor business.
Before becoming the CEO of Philips in April 2011, Marriott will return to Philips this year and become the company's chief operating officer.
