China and the United States will carry out smart grid cooperation

On the morning of May 10th, in the third round of China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogue, China and the United States reached a number of consensuses on energy cooperation, including: developing smart grids, large-scale wind power development, distributed natural gas, shale gas, and aviation. During the third round of the strategic and economic dialogue, China and the United States exchanged views on issues such as energy security and clean energy development in the current situation in West Asia and North Africa, international oil prices, and the nuclear accident in Fukushima.

Liu Tie-nan, deputy director of the National Development and Reform Commission and director of the National Energy Administration made a keynote speech on energy security and clean energy. He said: "China and the United States are the world's largest energy producers and consumers, and they are maintaining global energy security and clean energy development. The two sides share common interests and responsibilities.” It is recommended that the two sides should focus on safeguarding oil security, expanding two-way investment and trade in clean energy, and deepening cooperation in energy science and technology.

It is reported that during the dialogue, China and the United States reached consensus on energy cooperation. The two sides reaffirmed the spirit of the "Joint Statement on Energy Security Cooperation between China and the United States" and ensured that the principles of mutually beneficial cooperation, diversified development, and coordinated security ensure energy security; they agreed to the "China-US Energy Cooperation Project" and "China-US Renewable Energy Partnership". Under the existing cooperation framework, such as the "China-US Shale Gas Cooperation Memorandum of Understanding," we will carry out practical cooperation in the areas of smart grids, large-scale wind power development, natural gas distributed energy, shale gas, and aviation biofuels; we are committed to sharing experiences in energy regulation and Practice information.

The two sides agreed to hold the China-US Energy Policy Dialogue, the China-US Oil and Gas Industry Forum, the China-US Renewable Energy Industry Forum and the China-US Advanced Biofuels Forum and other related conferences in due course this year.
