HP TouchPad's $99 Jumping Price Clearance Losses $100 Million

One day after HP announced the suspension of the production of the TouchPad tablet, resellers began to significantly reduce the price of the TouchPad Tablet PC, which is priced at US$99 for the 16GB model and US$149 for the 32GB model.

HP is said to have issued a memorandum to the branch, announced that it will cut the TouchPad 300 US dollars. This is another price cut on the basis of a $100 price cut earlier this month.

The memo said that HP will start cutting TouchPad prices from Sunday, August 20, 2011. This is the lowest price for TouchPad, so please post this message as soon as possible.

Although price reduction sales will begin on Sunday, retailers including Canada's Best Buy and Future Shop have already listed this price. However, the TouchPads of these two stores have apparently sold out.

The price cuts may cause HP to lose $100 million. Resellers, including Best Buy, reportedly complained to HP about a backlog of products and refused to pay for thousands of TouchPads that were not sold.

Hewlett-Packard on Thursday (August 18) announced that it will stop the acquisition of Palm's webOS smartphone and tablet business last year. Hewlett-Packard also consider stripping out the PC business with low profit margins to focus on software and services.

The cancellation of the TouchPad business was seen as a major victory for Apple and iPad. Some experts have reiterated their point of view: Tablet PC is actually just the iPad market.
